Patty Tucker, 2016 Honorary Member of the Year

Patty Tucker is the American Contract Bridge League’s 2016 Player of the Year. This honor comes with the star treatment of being on the cover of The Bridge Bulletin, a national bridge magazine. Patty arranged for me to shoot her portraits at the Georgia Tech Campus, where she was teaching a bridge workshop that day. We did some shots of her around the student center outside and some during her workshop with the students. Check out the results below.

Here’s Patty on the cover of The Bridge Bulletin

Ashlee & John – Engaged!

This engagement is very near and dear to my heart. Ashlee has been an amazing friend to me for over 20 years. When she told me that John had proposed, I had two reactions. The first was joy for my friends who decided to celebrate their love with marriage. The second was “I can’t wait for the engagement session”. I’ve been thinking about it ever since.

Here is the end result. A beautiful couple in a beautiful setting. Congrats to two of my favorite people. I can’t wait for the wedding!

Yummy: Masala Fresh Food Truck

On a cold, cloudy day at the Howell Mill Food Truck park, I expected to find an empty scene. Boy, was I wrong. Despite the fact that snow flurries were falling, there were tons of folks at the Taste and Brews Festival. The people that showed up had prepared well, wearing their hats and gloves and warm coats. Everyone seem to be in a great mood despite the dreary weather.

The Masala Fresh food truck had a steady line of folks wanting to try their samples of indian street food. Chicken tikka masala over rice coupled with a veggie samosa and a few pieces of naan was a hit with the crowd because it came out steaming hot and so tasty! I had a blast watching each patron devour their taste of Masala Fresh.

Masala Fresh is the first indian street food truck in Atlanta. I recommend getting a naan wrap which is like a indian burrito: yummy chicken masala and rice wrapped in a piece of naan. So simple yet so good. To find out where the Masala Fresh truck will be next, like them on Facebook.

Event – Homestretch Peachtree Tea

I had the honor of photographing Homestretch’s Peachtree Tea and silent auction to raise money for the organization’s cause of helping homeless families. Homestretch not only helps families with temporary housing but also helps them “address the root causes of their situation and return to a life of self-reliance and stability.” I can’t think of a better way to help a family then to teach them how to work within in their means in order to get back on their feet.

The tea featured a variety of items donated from all over Georgia: jewelry, toys, hats, sports tickets, vacation packages. So many wonderful items to bid on. Champagne cocktails and a doting staff from Atlanta Athletic Club set a festive mood while attendees browsed and bid. A delicious lunch was served as we got to hear from Audrey Hines, Rose Burton and Monica Oliveira who all spoke on the mission of Homestretch.

We also got to hear from Jessica and Vernon, a husband and wife who have graduated from the homestretch program and are starting their own charity to help encourage children to peruse the arts. It’s inspiring to hear how after Homestretch helped them, they want to help others.

The keynote speaker was the lovely and talented Karyn Greer of 11Alive News, the local NBC affiliate here in Atlanta. She spoke of her own struggles early in her career before she became the smiling face of morning coverage for 11Alive.

The event was a success and I have to thank Monica for inviting me to cover it. Thanks Monica! What a great organization to be a part of!

Wedding – Megan and Dillon

Megan and Dillon were married on a beautiful fall day in November at Glendalough Manor. I could see why they choose this location immediately. This venue, located 40 minutes outside of Atlanta, had it all – sprawling lawns and gardens with gorgeous trees echoing all the colors of fall, two pristine and large reception halls, one with a fireplace.

Megan and Dillon chose to have a first look before the wedding, which always makes for great pictures.

Their ceremony took place as the sun went down – it was so romantic.

This was another time that I got work with Graceology but unlike before, it was my first time working with Chris’s other half, Heather. She is as much a wedding photo extraordinaire as her hubby. I really enjoyed working with her. Check out her beautiful photos from Megan & Dillon’s wedding here.

Congrats Megan & Dillon! I wish you both all the best!

Wedding – Sharon & Bryan

Sharon and Bryan were married at a church in North Atlanta. Their ceremony was a traditional catholic mass followed by a lavish reception at the Biltmore Hotel in the Georgian Ballroom.

I got to be a part of their day by way of Marta Noe Photography. This was the first time Marta asked me to work for her and I was more than thrilled. She has given me photography advice over the last couple years and her work is amazing. Marta has been doing weddings for some time now and shoots each one using her well-trained, artistic eye. I hope to work with her more in the future. Check out her blog post for Sharon & Bryan here:

Thank You Marta! Congrats Sharon & Bryan!

Wedding – Jennie & Anish

Jennie & Anish were married on a sunny fall Saturday at Saint Lawrence Catholic Church in Lawrenceville, GA. Their ceremony incorporated sentiments from the Catholic religion and from Indian tradition. Their families celebrated with them in the Hilton Ballroom where dances were danced, tears were shed and love was shared. It was a magical evening, to say the least. Congrats Jennie & Anish!

Wedding – Mallary & Kyle

Mallary & Kyle were married at Tucker Plantation just outside of Athens, Georgia. You might remember Mallary & Kyle’s engagement pictures from Chateau Elan. I was glad to see them again, especially on this day.

Mallary and Kyle’s wedding was yet another opportunity to work with the amazing Graceology. These guys have been so great for me to work with. I’ve learned so much from them already! Check out this super sweet shot Chris got of Mallary pre-ceremony. It’s truly breath-taking!

My favorite shot that I took is surprisingly raw, as in no effects. Just some lightening to show the detail of the couple’s faces:

I just love this shot – the sun coming off his shoulder, her eyes serenely closed! Part of me wants to remove the lens flare on her dress and the other part wants to leave it as it. What to do?

It was so fun to work with these guys again. Congrats Mallary and Kyle! I wish you all the best!

Dr. Sketchy’s presents Snow, Glass, Apples

My friend Brandon introduced me to Dr. Sketchy’s awhile back. You might remember my post from the burlesque fest by Dr. Sketchy’s that Brandon and I went to back in March. This special Dr. Sketchy’s included cast members from the production “Snow, Glass, Apples”, an adaptation of a Neil Gaiman story by Dr. Sketchy operator Lisa Stockton.

Below are a few snaps I got of the cast before it got dark in the East Atlanta Village. Click to see a large version.
